In Scotland, the thistle is the national flower, symbolising strength, resilience, pride, and protection, rooted in a legend where its prickly spines saved Scots from a surprise Norse attack by alerting them with a cry of pain. It's a deeply ingrained national emblem seen on crests, coins, and official symbols, representing the hardy, indomitable spirit of the Scottish people and landscape, famously linked to the motto Nemo me impune lacessit (No one provokes me with impunity).
